The aim of this Workshop is to create an open and plural space for designing a strategy that ensures the document has a real impact across the world.

Background

From 2022 to 2026, an ISCEAH task force comprising eight representatives from different regions worldwide developed a proposal for an ICOMOS International Charter for the Conservation of Earthen Architectural Heritage. After four years of continuous work, the proposal underwent through eight review phases, involving the participation of ICOMOS Scientific and National Committees, ICOMOS members, several international organizations, and over 80 international experts, who contributed with almost 500 suggestions that helped achieve a more robust final document. In the ninth and tenth phases of the ISCEAH Charter review process, the ICOMOS Advisory Committee and ICOMOS Board address a final assessment of the Charter text. 
Following its approval, the Charter is adopted at the General Assembly, and a new stage begins: its dissemination and implementation. 

Program

  1. Presentation of ISCEAH Charter: Core concepts, and Charter’s development.
  2. Recently adopted Charter’s Roundtable: Representatives of two Scientific Committees that have developed their own Charters in recent years, will share the challenges that were faced, lessons learned and strategies addressed to apply their Charters. Guests:

  1. Open discussion forum: An open exchange space among representatives from different countries and regions to understand the plurality of conditions and contexts, on how to implement the Earthen Charter to contribute for conservation efforts in the protection and preservation of earthen architectural heritage in the different World regions. National and regional representatives will be encouraged to participate, seeking to ensure geographical diversity and address the range of conditions and challenges involved in the preservation of earthen heritage.
